Moreton Common

Leasow Lighthouse has been a distinctive landmark on the Wirral Peninsular since 1863 and was installed by The Mersey Docs and Harbour Company to guide ships into the Port of Liverpool. The lighthouse stands on Leasow Common, but many will know it as 'Moreton'. During the 60's and 70's, families would come here for a day out, mostly on Sundays, erecting tents on the field. Sadly the field is no more as it has been filled over and uneven. At the time, you could run up the sloping concrete wall to the river Dee estuary and see if the tide was in or not. If the tide was in, it was back to the field for a sunbathe on a camp bed or a game of footy, all the lads joined in. If the tide was out, then it was down the slope on the other side, tuning over rocks to see if there were any crabs underneath.

The Lighthouse at Moreton

Anyone visiting for the first time would walk to the Lighthouse to explore, but it was always locked so there was nothing much you could do apart from walk around it. After that, the lighthouse was something that you never bothered with.

Send up the Drone

I've posted a video on the DroneSnoop YouTube channel where you can take a trip up the outside of Lighthouse and view it from a perspective you've never seen before.
